To Celebrate the reopening of 
Canford Bridge in Wimborne

The EDDC and the Wimborne chamber of trade are having an "Eventful Day" on Sat. the 1st of Nov. with many events and FREE PARKING.

The University of the Third Age - Verwood

The Verwood branch of this charitable organisation was set up in 2007 and now has its own website which gives details of courses for the retired and semi retired.
NEW COURSES START IN SEPTEMBER.

New finger post on Ferrett Green.
On Monday the 19th of May the "The Twinning Association" presented a new finger post to Verwood town council. The sign situated near the new "Spa" shop shows the distance and direction of Verwood's Twin Towns of Chmptoceaux (246 miles) and Liederbach near Frankfurt (485 miles).
 It was presented by Mr Terry Bright (centre), the chairman of the Verwood and 3LX Twinning Association to The Town Council represented by Verwood's incoming Mayor Cllr. Lucy Clark (left) and its outgoing mayor Cllr. Alec Nicholls (right).

Verwood Twinning Association is open to Young and Old and is able to facilitate twinning visits between other groups and our French and German friends.

Verwood 2008 Carnival

Fun Fair, stalls, the Solent Dog Display Team, Live Blues on Stage, The Bournemouth Carnival Band, Dingle Fingle the stunt clown and Street Procession.
Gates open from 11 A.M. at the Fuzzy Bit, just off Crane Drive, Verwood.
At 12:00 (noon) the procession will leave on its new shorter route.

Crane Drive, Home Farm Road, right onto Sation Road, through the centre of the town, right into Vicarage Road then Manor Road, Church Hill, Dewlands Way, Home Fram  Road and return via Crane Drive to the Fuzzy Bit,

We are sorry to report the sad news of the death of Ray Sargent early on the morning of Sunday 9th of March 2008 when he lost his fight with cancer.
Ray was a well known local Actor and Musician who was very active with EDALE (East Dorset Arts Leisure and Entertaiment).
He last appeared on stage at the "Verwood Heathland Heritage Centre" and at the "Barrington theatre" in August 2007 during the "SITT" Festival. Our condolences to his wife Julia and his daughter Laura 
  Ray's funeral took place at St Hubert's Church, Corfe Mullen Tuesday March 25th.

Verwood Town Council has been accredited
 as a Quality Town Council.


The award was presented by the High Sheriff of Dorset on the 15th of December during Verwood's Christmas Extravaganza.

European Flag of Honour On Display
Thanks to the Mayor and the Town Clerk the Flag is on display in the
Verwood Heathland Heritage Centre coffee shop.
Why not go and have a look while you have a cup of coffee.
Note that the flag has now been returned to the Town Hall.

Note from the 8th January 2008 there will be changes to the Wilts and Dorset bus services in East Dorset
serving Ferndown, West Moors, Parley, Verwood, St Leonards and St Ives.

2007 - Verwood' Christmas Extravaganza Pictures
 Father Christmas visited his Grotto on Ferrett Green on the 15th of December 2007. The Mayor of Verwood  with the help of Cinderella switched on Verwood's lights. The Verwood Training Band played and carols were sung around the tree. 

There was  mulled wine or hot coffee and Mince Pies in the Heritage Centre plus other food supplied by Verwood Scouts and the Carnival Committee stalls. The Recycling Group and the Twinning Committee also had stalls while there were Steam Train rides and a roundabout for the children, in addition to their visit to see Santa in his Grotto.

The top picture shows Sarah and Jonathon Criddle dressed as pixie helpers for Father Christmas. They are with the chairman of Rotary and the Mayor and Mayoress who presented them with their prize.

The bottom picture shows the High Sheriff of Dorset presenting the Mayor, on behalf of the Town Council, with their "Quality Town Council " award

be collecting gifts for children, teenagers and older people, which will be
distributed in local communities. Could you donate a new, unwrapped gift?

European Flag of Honour in 2007

Verwood & 3LX - the only municipality in the UK and one of only 18 in Europe to receive the European Flag of Honour in 2007. Select here for a full report with pictures of the Civic and  FLAGFEST celebrations in October 2007.

 

On Friday the 19th of October at "The HUB", Verwood and 3LX was presented with the European Flag of Honour by the
Hon. Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Europe Kerstin Eckman.
The picture shows the dignitaries present at the event.
